THE COMING WARS

by SEYMOUR M. HERSH on NewYorker

George W. Bush’s reëlection was not his only victory last fall. The President and his national-security advisers have consolidated control over the military and intelligence communities’ strategic analyses and covert operations to a degree unmatched since the rise of the post-Second World War national-security state.

anand,

I think there will be no more wars till "they can bring the troops home" to retool and reft. Mostly because they dont have any more troops to fight anything - even for special forces assaults like sy hersh has written about. The US military is basically broke because of the men and material it is expending in Iraq and Bush has no fund allocation for rebuilding in the next budget. They wont be ready until the fall of 2007 for any mid sized operation.

And there is a school of thought that this is just sabre rattling against the iranian mullahs and hersh is being "fed". the link has more
